Toby's obituary
In Loving Memory of Toby
Loyal Companion, Trusted Guardian, and Lifesaving Friend
Toby was more than a service dog. He was a constant presence, a grounding force, and a best friend who never left my side. As a Veteran, I came to depend on Toby not just for assistance, but for the emotional lifeline he provided—pulling me out of the shadows of depression, standing beside me in moments of anxiety, and helping me feel safe in a world that often felt overwhelming.
Toby had a quiet strength. With a gentle nudge or the calm weight of his presence, he could break through a panic attack, wake me from a nightmare, or simply remind me I wasn’t alone. He was trained to do incredible things, but his greatest gift was his heart—loyal, intuitive, and unconditionally loving.
On the outside, Toby may have worn a vest and followed commands, but to me, he was family. He made every walk feel lighter, every errand less daunting, and every silent moment feel understood. Losing him so suddenly to Addison’s disease has left a silence that echoes deeply—but I find comfort in knowing his life was a life of purpose, love, and bravery.
Toby’s Legacy
Toby embodied the life-changing role service dogs play for Veterans:
He reduced the weight of PTSD and helped me sleep through dark nights.
He encouraged me to re-enter the world, one outing at a time.
He offered a sense of safety when everything else felt uncertain.
He reminded me daily that I was never truly alone.
Through his presence, I was able to reclaim parts of my life—and his impact will forever be etched into my heart.
Thank You, Toby
Thank you for your unwavering loyalty.
Thank you for your quiet courage.
Thank you for loving me without condition.
You were my lifeline, my protector, and my friend.
You were—and always will be—my hero.
Rest easy, sweet boy. You’ve earned your peace.
