Sammie

2002 - 2018

Sammie passed away to a peaceful rest on August 5, 2018, after a mercifully short illness.
From the day 16 years ago that i brought a puppy home who cuddled up and fell asleep in my arms on the drive home we have been constant companions. She made me laugh with her crazy antics and worried me when she was sick.
There has not been a day go by that her tail stopped wagging, even on her last day when she was in so much pain she managed to wag her tail when the vets who were treating her talked to her.
Sammie was not a greet another dog first type except in the case of her 8 year playmate Suzy whom when they were together would spend hours chasing each other around the backyard and playing tug of war with anything they were able to get a hold of, usually one of her many toys that had survived the normal ten minute life span after she first received them.
But when we were out walking and we happened upon another person out walking their dog she would ignore the other dog first and approach the one holding the leash, tail wagging wildly and after receiving a welcome pat on the head she would then turn her attention to the four legged friend at the other end of the leash.
She filled the lives of those who knew her with fun and affection and those memories of her from her signature sleeping on her back or the way she would lean against you to let you know she expected you to pet her or provide her a treat, will sustain us now that she wont be in our lives any longer.
I personally have lost a piece of my heart which she stole the first day i held her in my arms and now she is gone ill never get it back.
My one solace is that my sweet girl is not in any pain any more and is at rest.
Thank you for being in my life and giving me 16 years of unconditional love.
