Sake
2008 - 2025
My ever faithful girl — you left us a week ago, but somehow time still feels frozen.
You weren’t “mine” at first, but I’m so glad I used my very best negotiating skills to take you with me. Once my nervous Nelly, you somehow managed to run every home we ever had.
You were the most distinctively beautiful. There was something unmistakable about you: the softness of your face, the way your markings framed your expression, the calm confidence you carried with every step. And those eyes… you spoke with them long before you ever spoke.
Only butter and whipped cream would do for you — surpassed only by an unattended water glass. And truly, there’s no one on this earth I’d rather have surrendered my drinks to.
I’ll admit, when we lost Jennavive, it took me some time to love you well again. But you were patient with me, steady in the way only you could be. Thank you for your grace through my grief.
You always made your presence known — talky, opinionated, and proudly yourself — and yet you were the gentlest creature I’ve ever known. Now, the silence in these walls is deafening.
I’m so grateful for the clarity you gave us when it was your time. You allowed us the honor of being by your side all the way to the end, and I hope you felt your dignity was held the entire way.
You’re finally free from pain. And now, I will carry it for you.
Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for your steadfastness — through the years when it was just us girls, for welcoming Gracie, for staying with me through all the chaos, for tolerating George, and for being my comfort through your golden years.
Talky Sake. Cakey. Sakes.
My most loyal confidant.
You shared your whole life with me, and now I’ll miss you for the rest of Mine.
