Kera

November 15, 2012 - April 4, 2025

Today at 1:04 PM, Kera (Bubbaloo) passed away with dignity and in style, just as she lived. She was 12 years old.

Kera suffered a severe slipped disc after an unfortunate fall during the recent ice storm, leaving her completely paralyzed in her back end. Her chances of recovery were very poor, and we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go peacefully.

Every night, Kera slept on my head, resting her face against mine. Even in her final days, she was determined to do the same—one of her last wishes was to sleep on her special pillow, the one that sat on top of my head. Despite her paralysis, she dragged herself over to it, so happy to be there, and began kissing my face.

Kera was a fiercely independent girl who always knew what she wanted. Eleven years ago, she got lost in Thunder Bay for 10 days in -40°C weather with snow up to our waists. We searched endlessly, and just when hope was fading, snowshoers found her—she had been sleeping with the deer. She had lost nearly 25% of her body mass and had a few frostbitten spots, but in true Kera fashion, she survived.

Kera was a master counter-surfer, proudly stealing loaves of bread and doughnuts whenever she could. She loved food—only once in her life did she ever refuse a meal.

She had a beautiful personality and adored visitors, especially the grandkids. Her special friend, Milis, although she wasn’t too thrilled when we first brought him home, but they became inseparable—always on squirrel patrol, running and wrestling throughout the day. No one could pass our house without both of them barking up a storm.

Kera was my pride and joy. She was the heartbeat @ my feet and family. We shared a special bond, always understanding each other’s thoughts and feelings. On days she knew I was leaving, she would carry on, making sure I knew she wanted to come along. She was my co-pilot, always in the front seat, sometimes dozing off but keeping a paw on my arm or hand. Of course she always knew her and Milis would go to McDonald’s.

She and Milis loved when I sang off-key to them. She would jump up, hug me, and slow dance, always full of love and life.

We will miss this incredible girl who brought us so much joy. Kera made a cloudy day seem sunny.

A heartfelt thank you to the Prescott Animal Hospital, Dr. Lazurko, Soma, Rebecca, and the entire team who cared for Kera with so much love. We are forever grateful for your guidance and support.

A special thank you to Heather Murray, who drove over an hour to pick up Milis and bring him home to play with Lola and Shea, giving him comfort during this difficult time.
A special thank you to Pat Ua Siaghail for her comforting words during this time

Milis and I will miss you more than words can say, Bubba. Run fast, my girl. Please come sleep on my pillow tonight.

Love, Mom, Dad and Milis ❤️🐾😢
