Jake Thom

2004 - 2014

Only 9 months after we lost our beautiful black lab, Sadie, we have now had to say goodbye to our beautiful boy Jake. I have often said that I couldn’t have loved him more if I had given birth to him and the pain of losing him is unreal. We had hoped that when he went in for surgery that the cancer would be in his spleen only. Then our vet could have removed his spleen and Jake would have come home. This was not the case. Instead his liver had several tumors and we knew the only thing we could do for our boy is to let him go. So we went to the clinic and my husband and I were with him when he peacefully slipped away.
Jake came into our lives, home and hearts on October 23, 2004 at 10 weeks of age. He wasn’t originally the dog we were going to get but he is without a doubt the one we were supposed to get. A litter had been born on October 11 and one of them was going to be ours. While keeping tabs on the breeder's website for new photos of our litter, a mysterious young male popped up when I knew none should be available. A new breeding male puppy she had acquired turned out to be one too many! So instead of having to wait 7 more weeks for a dog to be in our lives we choose to go and get him.
Jake kept me company in the evenings when the kids were little and tucked in for the night and my husband was working in New York. He was my buddy and followed me everywhere.
Although his kennel name was Michael's Boy, I always said he was mine. But I have come to realize he was everyone’s. He held such a special place in the hearts of so many people. He was just an amazing guy and I’m so glad we got to have him in our lives.

Rest in Peace Jake (Jakies, Bakies) August 18, 2004-February 6, 2014
