Birdie
2021 - 2026
My poor dog did not have an easy life, suffering from drug resistant epilepsy for four years and three months of her five years and one month of life. Her rigid drug plan was made possible by my family, who always kept and ear and eye out for her. She knew very few days alone and always had someone near by to keep an ear and eye out for her.
To express my devastation with words does not feel possible. Years of anxiety and worry were developed alongside a deep love and friendship. This dog with her health issues was entrusted into my care, and I did the absolute most I could for her, sacrificing the start of a career in marine mechanics to navigate her new diagnosis.
I knew she would not live long. But for her to go so quickly and unrelated to her seizures is beyond my understanding. It was too soon. I did not get enough time with her.
I am heartbroken and I will never have answers to what caused her death. I just know it was kinder to let her pain end on her terms, and to not force her through another hospital stay, a possible surgery, months of recovery, all while still having seizures. I'm sorry Birdie. I love you. I miss you. Just looking at all your belongings scattered around my house is overwhelming. I will keep your memory with me forever.
