A poem for Sushi
You came into my life, a soft little spark

With eyes like the dusk and a voice in the dark.

Through cataract haze, you still saw me clear

With every soft pawstep, you held me dear.

A lion in silence, with fur like the clouds

A queen on her throne, so graceful and proud.

You braved every storm with a quiet, fierce grace

And still found the sun in your favorite place.

The illness, the pain , you carried it long

But still managed to purr and tried to be strong.

When your eyes filled with sorrow, and your body grew weak

You told us in silence what you could not speak.

We gave you the sunshine, the treats, and the breeze

We let you sit softly among rustling leaves.

We held you through twilight, and kissed you goodbye

Our tears fell like rain as you touched the sky.

Did you know we were with you, in those last days?

That every last touch was a thousand-word phrase.

We stayed till the end, so you'd feel comfort, not fear,

When your little soul left this world , just know that your humans will miss you my dear.

I still feel your warmth in the quiet of night,

I see you in dreams bathed in golden sunlight.

And though you are gone, your love lingers on

In memories, in Goose, in the glimps of the first morning dawn.

So run now through stars, soft whiskers aglow

You're free now, sweet Sushi, it's your time to go.

But know in my heart, forever you'll stay,

My little girl Sushi, your memories will never fade away.
