Lucy

2002 - 2018

The day has come when I can finally write about this. Our dear precious Lucy has left this world. I am still numb with her loss. I have tried to put together a fitting memorable but words can never express what she meant to us. She was once in a lifetime dog who we will never forget. RIP Lucy Love you always.

Lucy (Fiddlesticks) April 4 2002 - April 16 2018

Lucy came to us as a foster for Gentle Jake’s Coonhound Rescue after we had lost our dog Joey.
It soon became clear it would be a foster failure. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart.
She had a hard past but with lots of love she blossomed into a true BlueTick Coonhound.
Her howling for food was memorable. Her prancing to play was laughable. She loved playing with the other dogs at the leash free park and rubbed herself against people like a big cat.
She had lost most of her teeth due to neglect but loved to mouth our arms in play.
She tolerated our cats. She was a great companion for the many fosters we had over the years.
Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss.
In the end, she let us know it was time. She looked at us with those hound dog eyes and sighed peacefully.
Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow looking back in memory may help comfort us tomorrow. And somewhere out there are all her puppies – her legacy.
I believe Lucy and Joey are romping together in full howl…
RIP Lucy, we will never forget you….
What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.
