Sophie

2003 - 2017

On this beautiful summer morning, we said good bye to our Sweet Sophie.

One of the best things we ever did was adopt Sophie and by far the hardest things that we’ve ever done was to say good bye.

We adopted Sophie 14 years ago - she was 4 months old. She sat quietly at the back of a wood chip filled kennel while her three brothers climbed on top of each other to impress us. Jules (always the decisive one) locked eyes on the quiet female and the decision was made. Her name was unanimously confirmed on the drive home after she barfed up those wood chips into the red cap sitting on Julian's lap….and the crazy fun of living with Sophie began!

I'd hoped she'd be a close friend for then 9 yr old Julian. She was that and so much more than I could have imagined or hoped for.

In her younger years Sophie was the fastest ball player at the park, a tireless swimmer and a big hairy snoring bed-hog. The most unsophisticated 'foodie', a quintessential party animal and at times a big ‘pain-in-the-but’. She was unfailingly gentle, faithful, loyal, forgiving and trusting. She gave us absolute and unconditional love - always.

Fortunately, Sophie rallied yesterday and she, Jules and I enjoyed an amazing day doing many of Soph’s favorite things – swimming, playing ball, a picnic, walks and at home family time. It could not have been more perfect.

The tears and sadness we feel today are matched by the sense of relief that the end was so peaceful. We are so thankful that she did not suffer and are comforted that she's now and forever with her big (feline) brother Simon.
