Bentley “Thumper” Beilschmidt

2004 - 2015

BENTLEY BEILSCHMIDT
February 5, 2004 to January 15, 2015

Bentley was the sweetest, most gentle dog you could hope for, not a mean bone in his body. He was a Newfoundland/Black Lab cross with a heart full of nothing but love. Bentley bounded toward me at one of the pet stores in the town of Dunnville, an 8 week old black bundle of fur on April 6, 2004. I immediately said "Bentley" as my husband had had a dream about a man walking 2 Newfoundland dogs in a park, and we had just lost Winston Nobel, so my husband told this man about our loss. He said "I don't need 2 dogs, you take Bentley". The pet store loaned me a cat carrier and off we went, Bentley and me. Unfortunately, his sister was left behind, as we already had Bandit and Delilah, and 4 dogs would be too much. Bentley fit in so wonderfully, that on Saturday, April 11, 2004 my husband went back to the pet store and adopted little sister "Bessie". The 2 were inseparable until the day we had to say farewell to Bentley. Bentley's nickname was "Thumper" because every time he saw us, his tail thumped so fast and hard it hit everything in sight. I will forever miss his sweet kisses, face to face when making a fire in the woodstove every winter morning, and in the middle of the night, him waking me up and telling me he needed to go outside and do his business. Lymphoma took his life on January 15, 2015, and even though he has left my life, he will never leave my heart. When we said our goodbyes to this sweet, gentle creature, we were there at his side for the final act of love, and he went peacefully to sleep. With Bentley gone, there is now a large hole in our home and our backyard. Someone special and loving is missing, and his presence is felt everywhere. We miss you so much, my SWEET BENTLEY, your brothers, sisters, your Poppa and me. ONE DAY, YOU AND ALL OF THE OTHERS WAITING AT THE BRIDGE WILL CROSS OVER WITH ME AND WE WILL ALL BE TOGETHER AGAIN.
I love you,
Mama
