Truffles

2012 - 2022

Truffles joined our little family on Saturday December 22, 2012 when we visited a Scarborough Animal Shelter. As we walked down the row of rabbit cages, an adorable little brown bunny hopped atop of the hut that was inside and at the front of her cage to get a better look at us. She put her paws up on the bars and gazed with interest through the most beautiful big brown eyes. We soon learned how meaningful this behaviour was considering she had not been socialized properly and was quite skittish. When sitting on my lap to get acquainted, she was shaking like a leaf but soon became more comfortable backing right into me when other people came close. We adopted Truffles but in reality she truly picked us to be her parents. She definitely made Christmas 2012 joyful.

Truffles had quite the diverse personality. We often referred to her as a “munchkin” observing her chewing on the fringe of the household rugs. When caught she would shake her head and merrily do binkies as she hopped away. She thought it was great fun to be naughty … and be caught! Truffles was a very intelligent, curious and interactive little girl who could heel perfectly, like a dog, to get her favourite goodies. She loved hunting for these said goodies as well as playing the fun game of getting the goodies out from a little black plastic derby hat. During her younger days, we would watch with great amusement as she would roll, also like a dog. She enjoyed playing with and “chinning” her toys as well as many items in the house. We also received precious bunny chins and felt so privileged when we did. Our wonderful medical team observed that “she is a princess, and a girl who knows what she wants and more importantly, knows how to get it!” She was also described as “a sensitive soul”. All these qualities made her the wonderfully unique and special bun that she was.

Truffles had health issues beginning at the young age of 3. She battled GI Stasis throughout her life and later developed problems with her teeth resulting in a need for 5 dental procedures over time. Soreness and arthritis in her back kept her on medication for much of her life. Because she unusually did not like to drink, a small amount of honey was added to her water daily making her a true “honey bunny”.

It is with great sadness that we said good-bye on Monday May 30, 2022 to our sweet girl. Truffles, our beautiful bunny “princess” will reign in our hearts forever.

Love, Mom & Dad xoxo
